With over 1 million people expected to flock to Philadelphia this weekend, Upper Dublin township will be seeing an onslaught of commuters making their way to the city.
The historic visit of Pope Francis will take place on Saturday, September 26th and Sunday, September 27th. His trip to Philadelphia will include Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, a trip to Independence Mall, the Festival of Families on the Parkway, as well as The World Meeting of Families Papal Mass to close his stay in the City of Brotherly Love.
Local news stations have well-publicized this event, in an attempt to prepare Philadelphia residents, and those living in the surrounding suburbs, for the traffic changes and increased excitement. One of the featured train stations included in this journey to the Pope, is Fort Washington’s train station. Special one-day passes are needed to use this station. Barricades will line the streets, as police officers and community volunteers will direct traffic to ensure a smooth travel weekend.
Parking for riders includes many primary UD locations, such as Germantown Academy, Temple University Ambler Campus, Upper Dublin High School, and the Fort Washington Office Park (select locations on Pinetown Road and Virginia Drive).
Whether you’ll be attending the Papal events or enjoying the first Fall weekend in your hometown, all can agree that it’s pretty fantastic to live so close to a city that is so highly-regarded. Upper Dublin residents are very fortunate to have such convenient transportation available for all of their city-going adventures.
